A Momma’s Heart
Being a momma is the hardest hat you will ever wear
Heart heavy as you always have two opposing emotions to bear
From that first moment of air that they breath
To the day they spread their wings and fly from the tree
Be strong little momma…you can’t let them feel
all the pain and struggles hidden within that is so very real
The nights a scary illness strikes your home
Not knowing what to do….the racing thoughts roam
Be strong little momma…you can’t let them feel
All the worry and fear hidden within that is so very real
That first day of school with a smile on your face
But praying only bravery your little one would embrace
Be strong little momma…you can’t let them feel
All the nervousness hidden within that is so very real
That first broken heart they felt and seeing their tears fall
You listen and speak life into their innocent heart so small
Be strong little momma…you can’t let them feel
All the anger hidden within that is so very real
Every time they step on a mat or a soccer field
Cheering them on while praying for a protective shield
Be strong little momma…you can’t let them feel
All the scary “what ifs” hidden within that is so very real
The big day they pull out of the driveway in the car all alone
You wave with a smile, but your body is frozen seeing them so grown
Be strong little momma…you can’t let them feel
All the crazy thoughts hidden within that is so very real
The day you watch them walk across the stage and hear their name
Your body so numb as you wear a mask of joy, wishing time you could tame
Be strong little momma…you can’t let them feel
All the regret and “should haves” hidden within that is so very real
All moved in and dreading that last hug before they leave the nest
No tears, just smiles as you hold them tight and pray your heart would rest
Be strong little momma….you can’t let them feel
All the sadness hidden within that is so very real
You are so proud and happy for the next chapter in their story
Savoring every call, playing it cool so they don’t worry
Be strong little momma…you can’t let them feel
All the emptiness hidden within that is so very real
Being a momma is the greatest yet toughest hat I have ever worn
The beauty and the pain wrapped in one gift like the rose and its thorn
